NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE & HARROGATE DISTRICT NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH ASSOCIATION remind residents living rurally that this time of year usually results in more Shed & Garage Burglaries across the District in general. They strongly recommend the following crime prevention advice...
Make access to the rear of the property as difficult as possible. Use locks, bolts or padlock and chain on all side and rear gates. Plant prickly and thorny plants around the fence line to deter intruders.
Fit and use security lighting/cctv, but ensure that it will not annoy neighbours.
Make sure sheds are kept securely locked, as they contain tools a burglar needs to break into your home.
Make windows opaque so that goods are not displayed to criminals.
Code mark all valuable goods with your postcode and house number.
Secure valuable items to each other or to the fabric of the shed, this will make removal much more difficult.
Consider fitting an alarm.
Inform your neighbours if you are intending to go away on holiday or even for a short break.
Report anything and everything suspicious immediately with as much detail as possible.
