We meet at Kirk Hammerton Village Hall and Green Hammerton Reading Room on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm

At our WI meeting this week Tuesday 14th March, Mr Roger Mattocks took us through a walk at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Staveley, recounting the different species of animal, insect and bird life one could encounter during each month of the year, his photographs were superb and it was altogether an enlightening talk making a visit to the Reserve a must.

I have attached a photograph of the duck (Mallard) that I mentioned to you at our meeting she is nesting 5 feet up a willow tree directly in front of my house. Each morning she comes along flies up and lays an egg then carefully covers it and off she goes returning the next morning to lay another.  I think there are 5 eggs in there this morning (Sat).   It will be interesting what happens when the ducklings emerge!!!  Any ideas?  Perhaps a ramp?

Our next WI meeting will be on Tuesday 11th April at the Green Hammerton Social Club starting at 7.30 pm.  Helen Heattie will talk about the Body Shop and will bring goods for sale, everyone is welcome to our meetings including guests.

Early announcement for our May meeting, this will be in the form of a Fashion Show by M & Co of Wetherby and will be held in the Village Clubl Green Hammerton on Tuesday 9th May at 7.30 pm.

Painting Group – Kathleen Flintoff 01423 330598

The Art Group is an informal get together of amateur artists who like to paint and get together. We are mostly villagers or local and meet at the Village Hall on the second Monday of the month from 10am to 1pm. We have no tuition and share the cost of the village hall between us. We start with a coffee and a chat and then get down to painting – mostly still life or landscapes but we have done portraits. People may do their own thing or work as a group.

Anyone is welcome to come along and join or just try a morning.
